Nova Makedonija
The daily newspaper "Nova Makedonija" is the oldest Macedonian media brand. It was founded at the third session of the The Anti-fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM) Presidium, which took place from 2 to 5 September, and the first issue came out on 29 October 1944 in the mountain village of Gorno Vranovci. The village was then the administrative center of the Macedonian free territory, before the last offensives of the "People's Liberation Army" (NOV), in which the big cities were liberated. The newspaper and the editorial office played a historic role in NOV and in the establishment of the Macedonian state in the post-war period.
The newspaper was privatized in 2003, when it was bought by the Skopje company "Zonik Computers". Until then, it was issued by the state-owned enterprise NIP "Nova Makedonija".
In early 2008, "Nova Makedonija" started coming out with a new format and a new editorial team, while Minco Jordanov, one of the richest people in North Macedonia according to "Forbes" magazine' list, took over the brand. Jordanov owns or controls many large businesses in metallurgy, construction, assembly structures, food and wine production, etc. Jordanov also had a political career: from 2004 to 2006, he was the Deputy Prime Minister for Economy in the Social Democrat-led government led by Vlado Buchkovski. After the takeover by Jordanov, the newspaper regularly changed its editor-in-chief after each of their contracts expired.
Although it is a private and commercial media, in its editorial policy "Nova Makedonija" still calls back to its historical roots.
