Radio
For decades, the main and fastest source of information was the "Macedonian Radio", established in 1944 by a decision of the First Session of ASNOM (Anti-Fascist Assembly of the People's Liberation of Macedonia).
Until the establishment of "Macedonian television" in 1964, this radio was the only electronic media available in the country.
In recent years, in public opinion polls, radio as a medium is usually not mentioned at all among the most important sources of information. According to a survey by the International Republican Institute (IRI) conducted in the period April - May 2023, only about three per cent of citizens get their news via radio.
Today's radio stations mostly have an entertainment format i.e. they play music and broadcast entertainment shows.
Currently, there are 64 radio stations in North Macedonia, five of which have a national license.
The Media Ownership Monitor in North Macedonia database contains data for five radio stations: "Kanal 77", "Antenna 5", "Metropolis", "Radio Jon" and the "Macedonian Radio - First Channel MRA1".
